Your competitors' 1-star reviews, all in one sheet
The fastest market research for a local business or an agency: what customers complain about at every competitor nearby. Late deliveries, rude staff, hidden fees: each complaint is a promise you can make in your ads and on your site. Here is how to collect them for a whole area in one run.
Step 1: list the competitors
Run Google Maps Businesses Scraper with a search like dentist in Leeds: it returns every
place with its place ID, rating and number of reviews. Keep the ones you compete with.
Step 2: their worst reviews first
Paste their place IDs (or "business name, city", or Google Maps links) in Google Maps Reviews
with sortBy set to lowest_rating and, for example, 50 reviews per place. Each review is one row: stars, text
(and the original text when Google translated it), date, the owner's reply and its date, plus the place's name, address and
average rating. Reviewer names and profiles are not collected.
Then group the texts by theme in a spreadsheet, or give them to an LLM with a prompt like "list the 10 most frequent complaints with one quote each".
What it costs
$0.0003 per review delivered plus $0.0011 per block of 10 reviews requested (Apify Starter plan). 20 competitors with 50 reviews each: about $0.27 for the reviews plus $0.11 for the blocks. Each run stops at the maximum cost you set.
Keep watching
Turn on onlyNewReviews and schedule a weekly run with sortBy: newest: you get only the reviews posted since the
last run, for your own locations and your competitors'.
Good to know
- Use what you learn to improve your offer and your messages; quoting or naming competitors' customers in public is another matter.
- Review texts are delivered as written: they may themselves mention names.
